Meet Maedb Hawkins of the Drakonja. That's the side of my personality that began going to renn faires, then medieval re-creation, and eventually became thoroughly intrigued by the historical aspects of those eras. I began to spin, stitch, and cook - in the styles of the middle ages, using those techniques (as near as possible). Since I'm a member of an educational group, I feel it's important to share what I've learned and done.

And thus we have this site, where I've gathered all my documentation. You're welcome to browse. You're also welcome to use what you find. Just keep in mind that I don't own the copyrights to most of the artwork. Be sure to credit anything you use, and check the copyrights! Remember also that I'm not infallible, so use my information as a starting point, and check what I say.

I'm sharing the documentation I've presented with my arts projects. Some is good, and some ... well, let's just say I am continually learning.

This needlework embroidery took me three years to complete, and was extensive enough that it deserves its very own section! Inspired by a 15th-century tapestry, I designed and needlepointed a 32"x34" portrait of my husband and I on our wedding day. I used period styles, techniques, colors, stitches, etc. to come as close as I could to the medieval. Part of the 3 years was the research I did so I would have a vague clue as to what I was doing. A vague clue is all it was, but the project is done and hanging on my living room wall, thankyouverymuch!

This project was either a simple feast, or a fancy meal, depending on your outlook. It took me 6 months of work and testing to complete the background information. The last 3 months were every day, and the 2 weeks before serving it was pretty much constant. But it turned out wonderful! (There was a roast, cheeses, sauces, spiced wine, etc.) It fed the judges, as well as my entire encampment!

I've collected a number of paintings, etc. on specialized topics near and dear to my heart:

  • Fiber (Spinning, sewing, lacemaking, knitting)
  • Cats - Felis domesticus
